France
France is the #1 most visited country in the world, and for good reason. Paris is a stunning city that has earned its reputation as the most romantic city in the world, but there's so many other places to explore in this jaw dropping country.
Top Locations
Paris: The Eiffel Tower. The Louvre. The Notre Dame. The Palace of Versailles. The Arc de Triomphe. There are countless infamous landmarks in and around Paris. I could go on and on! Paris is well worth the hype in my opinion. Everyone should visit Paris at least once in their life.
French Riviera: Glamorous, luxurious Mediterranean villages.
Provence: Famous for its lavender fields and wine vineyards, you'll have a hard time finding a more picture perfect place.
Loire Valley: An ideal spot for bikers and wine lovers.
Bordeaux Region: World class wine vineyards.
French Alps: These mountains are the perfect setting for a ski vacation in the winter or a hike in the summer.
Normandy: WWII history and an abbey that looks as if it's rising out of the ocean: Mont-Saint-Michel.
Recommended Reading
One of my favorite books is Kristin Hannah's The Nightingale which tells the story of two sisters in Nazi-occupied France during World War II. It's heartbreaking and exciting and I highly recommend it. It's also being made into a movie set to come out on March 19, 2027.
I also enjoyed a number of the stories in Ribbons of Scarlet, a collection of fictional stories about real historical female figures during the French Revolution.
Watch Before You Go
I watched a number of documentaries on the French Revolution before my trip, including BBC's The French Revolution and PBS's Marie Antoinette: The Doomed Queen, which is part of Lucy Worsley's Royal Myths and Secrets series.
