Europe
Norway
Oh, Norway. This beautiful country will forever hold a special place in my heart. This was my first big international trip I took with Alex and we ended up getting engaged on this trip too. On a less personal note, Norway is without question the most beautiful country I've been to. (Others might argue Switzerland takes the cake, but we disagree). The hikes are world class and the fjords are dramatic, with waterfalls around almost every corner. It's a true adventurer's paradise and a country I plan to return to again and again.
Top Locations
Stavanger: A charming coastal city that serves as the gateway to 2 of the 3 most famous hikes in the country: Kjeragbolten and Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock).
Trolltonga: Possibly the most famous hike in Norway. It's insanely picturesque, with a cliff that juts out of the mountains like a tongue (hence the name, Troll's Tongue) and leaves you suspended above the gorgeous fjords.
Jostedalsbreen: The largest glacier in continental Europe. Ice climbing on Jostedalsbreen is in my top 5 list of favorite activities I've ever done abroad.
Lofoten Islands: A series of islands nestled in between giant cliffs. The beauty is next level here and we're dying to go, especially during the summer to witness the Midnight Sun and do some hiking.
Tromsø: The Northern Lights capital of the world and the only place you can ethically swim with orcas. Tromsø offers a magnificent Arctic winter experience with dog sledding, reindeer farms, Sami culture, and fjord cruises.
Svalbard: The Northernmost settlement in the world. Here, you'll find pristine Arctic wilderness, and the chance to spot polar bears in their natural habitat. A trip to Svalbard is near the very top of my bucket list.
Western Fjords (Geirangerfjord): The perfect place to travel if you want to cruise through Norway's dramatic fjords.
Loen: A quieter alternative to Norway’s most famous fjords, Loen is known for its turquoise lakes, towering mountains, and peaceful atmosphere away from the crowds. For a jolt of adrenaline, try the Via Ferrata. Alex loved this activity.
