Kenya
Even in just a few short days, we were able to see what makes Kenya so magical. Not only is it a wildlife hotspot, but a cultural one on top of that. Kenya is home to over 40 different ethnic groups ("tribes"), including the Kikuyu, Luhya, and Maasai.
Top Locations
Masai Mara National Reserve: Kenya's most famous park. You can witness incredible predator-prey interactions here and catch giant herds of wildebeest during the Great Migration (June - September).
Amboseli National Park: To see giant herds of African elephants with the magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro as a backdrop, head to Amboseli National Park.
Nairobi: Kenya's bustling capital. To meet rescued baby elephants, check out the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. If you book far enough in advance (18-24 months), stay at Giraffe Manor.
Mount Kenya: If you're up for a challenge, try hiking the second highest mountain in Africa.

I was blown away by Wangari Maathai's Unbowed. Wangari is a Nobel Peace Prize winner who grew up in Kenya and spent her life as an environmental activist and feminist in a time when that was quite uncommon in Kenya, and she faced no shortage of struggles because of this.
I also recommend Daphne Sheldrick's Love, Life, & Elephants. She spent her life rearing elephant orphans and caring for many species of wildlife.
